Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4

Why should we worship Bhagavanta?
Whoever thinks that God (Bhagavanta) as charming and wonderful (divya) and His work as splendours will attain salvation (Mukti).

Is the profit or gain (phala) same for all worshippers of   God (Bhagavanta)?

For this question God has answered that the benefit is according to the magnitude of the worship made by them.  All the students appearing for the Examination will not pass.  Will they get same marks?  Shri Madvacharya in Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya has expressed that according to the quality of worship God gives benefit in the same order.  Both Arjuna and Duryodhana go to Dwaraka to see Lord Krishna.  When Krishna asked Duryodhana’s wish, Duryodhana asked for the battalion (sainya) of Krishna which resulted in complete destruction of Kouravas in the battle.  When Arjuna was asked the same question, he offered himself to God which resulted in victory to Pandavas in the battle.  Lord Krishna became sArathi of Arjuna, protected Arjuna in the battle field and brought victory to Pandavas.  Duryodhana went first to see Krishna, Arjuna went later.  Krishna saw them both and asked them their wishes.  You can see the difference of phala obtained by Arjuna and Duryodhana.  Now Bhagavata through Parikshit the grandson of Arjuna has become very popular, whereas the Kouravas are non-existent (“maphaleshu kadachana”).  God should be made primary not secondary when offering worship to God.  Lessons regarding God is not in the curriculum in any Universities.  Sadupaasane is important.    For example, if a student answers well he gets distinction, if a student answers moderately he will pass, if a student answers wrongly he will fail. Likewise some people will worship Devathes instead of God as it happens in the offices, instead of contacting Chief Officer  some will contact staff to get the work done.   God insists that he should be directly worshipped to get the right phala.  Arjuna tells Krishna that varna saankalya takes place, hence he will not participate in the war.  Krishna says that varna saaMkarya should not happen, because the four varnas are created by Him only.  When you follow Bhagavad-Gita, you must follow the varnas as specified by God.  All are entitled to perform yagna. The superior and inferior complex depends on the type of work that is done.    Carpenter’s skill is born gift.  It is natural not acquired.  Sugar, B.P., diabetes is all hereditary.  Heredity is the main reason in getting these diseases.  Likewise, those who are born in brahmin community will get the qualities of brahmin naturally.  A Kshatriya born in Kshatriya community will naturally will be physically strong. But a Brahmin can acquire the quality of a Kshatriya and vice versa.  An example to illustrate this: Karna replies Parusharama that he is brahmin.  When Parusharama slept on the lap of Karna a creature (dhuMbi) made a whole on the lap of Karuna and blood started coming out.  But Karna did not wake him up. When Parusharama saw the pool of blood when he woke up, he enquires Karna.  Karna answers that you are being a Guru I am not supposed to wake you up.  Then Parusharama tells Karuna that this indicates the physical strength of yours as a brahmana cannot withstand this misery and you are a Kshatriya and not a brahmin. Karna agrees that he is a Kshatriya. Because Karna lied Parusharama curses him to not remember the lessons taught to him at the time of death.   The place allotted at the time of lunch is classified according to seva given by devotees. It is not discrimination.  Even in hospitals the beds for patients are given according to    the type of diseases.   An eye specialist cannot do heart operation.  If these things are understood you have understood the shastras also.  The designing of Tractor, Lorry, Car are different.    Brahmana is designed for jnana karya.

Ten points to remember

Lord Krishna replies to the questions asked by Arjuna.

1.       Who is Brahma?

Brahma means Bhagavanta (God) who is omnipresent.                                                 He is present everywhere.

2.      What is adyaatma (supreme spirit)?

adyaatma means those which are useful to Atma.                                                        The body, Indriyas, mind is adyaatma.

3.       What iskarma(activity)?                                                                                                 Karma means the activities of God meaning Generating, Organizing and         Destroying of the Universe.

4.      What is abhibootha?

abhibootha means the things which are helpful to body.                                             These are earth, sky, fire, wind and water.

5.      adidaiva(supreme deity) means what?

adidaiva are Brahma and Vayu.  One must understand Brahma and Vayu.

6.      Who is abhiyagna?

The one who resides in our body is abhiyagna.  That is God (Bhagavanta).

Krishna says that abhiyagna is himself.

7.      I am abhiyagna because I am responsible for all the happenings that take place in the Universe.

8.      Whom should one remember when one is bed ridden or very sick?

To this question Lord Krishna replies that He (Krishna) should be remembered.

9.      Why should you be remembered?                                                                                   Because one can attain rupa (appearance) just like me.  Otherwise you get the rupa  of whatever you imagine at the time of death.  .  For example Bharata Chakravarthy who ruled this nation was born as deer in his next birth because he had imagined a deer while dying.

10.  How should one remember Him?                                                                                 Paramathma sarvagna, existed before the start of universe, buddhi preraka, smaller than atom, protector.  It is not possible to understand Him completely.      He has different colours and hundredthousand times brighter than Sun;         He is omnipotent.  Like this God (Bhagavantha) should be remembered in this form to attain liberation when dying.

Nine types of enmity towards God

1.         Jeeva and God are one and same.

2.       God has no virtues

3.       The virtues of God and ours are same.

4.       Sun, Moon, Indra, Shiva are equivalent to God.

5.       There is an existence of someone above God.

6.       In the avatars of God thinking that there is differences in rupas and virtues.

7.       Thinking God’s avatars as something else and not as God’s avatars

8.       Thinking Balarama as God’s Avatar and Parusharama’s avatar as not God’s  Avatar.

9.       Those who hate devotees of God and make allegations on Vedas , Ramayana, Mahabharata.

A brief sketch of Shri Madhvacharya

A brief sketch of Shri Madhvacharya

Shri Madhvacharya is Acharya of Thrilokya. He has shown the way to liberation (or salvation). The entire knowledge of shaastras was acquired by him. He is responsible for guiding multiple crores of Saatvik people. He has analyzed the Brahma Sutra of Vedavyasa. “Sumadvha Vijaya” written by Shri Narayana Pandithacharya contains 1008 shlokas which depicts the entire biography of Achary

Acharya’s childhood is as similar as to that of lord Krishna. When Acharya was an infant by consuming horse gram no side effects could be seen to the child. Acharya by offering tamarind seeds to his father’s friend solves the loan problem of his father. When he was just one year old, he had gone around the place by holding the tail of bull. He had consumed 200/1000 plantains without any effect to the stomach. He had drunk milk from 30 khodas. Acharya had cured the head ache of his teacher’s son by blowing air to the ear. From “Sumadhva Vijaya”, we learn that how Acharya has shown to the world about giving respect to the parents. When Acharya wanted to take up Sanyasa, his parents requests him not to take up Sanyasa as he is the only child surviving and there would be nobody to look after them in their old age. Acharya gives consent that he will not take up Sanyasa until his parents have another child. Acharya takes up the Sanyasa only after the birth of his younger brother Vishnu Theertha. When Acharya went to see Vedavyasa to Dodda Badari, his disciple Sathya Thirtha could not keep pace with Acharya and he was forced to come back to Chikka Badari which is the place often visited now by us. . Acharya demonstrated that he is Hanumantha avatar. Acharya does mouna vrutha (silent vow) for 48 days in Badari and he takes bath in Alakananda river daily during the dawn time. He was bathing three times in the Alakananda river. When thieves tried for theft, Acharya makes them to fight among themselves. When a giant in the form of tiger jumps at his disciple Sathya Theertha, Acharya kills the tiger by just touching it by his hand. This is an illustration to show that Acharya saves those who do upasane to GOD. If one understands (or reads) Brahma Sutra, Acharya will protect them from danger. Acharya with his shishyas crossed the Ganga river easily. Acharya responds in the same language of the King. The king offers half of his kingdom. When the King questions Acharya how they could cross the Ganga river wherein he had kept his guards everywhere. Acharya answers him that he could do this feat with the help of Lord (GOD) who is surrounded by Sun. The doors of Vaikunta are open to those who are perfect in both loukika vidye and shaasthra vidye. To understand Madhva shaastra, one should become a student of Madhva philosophy. Initiation towards Madhva shaastra is essential to understand Madhva shaastra.

Achaya spread the nava vidha bhakti to the universe.
