Sumadhva Vijaya 10: Dashama Sarga

A bird’s view:  Shri Sumadhva Vijaya By Shri Narayana Pandithacharya

Dashama Sarga                                                                                              This sarga has described Acharya’s mahimes voluminously. Hence, this sarga is known as Khanda kaavya. A king by name Ishwara Deva used to compel all the travelers in his region to dig the earth. When Achary reached that place the King urged Acharya to dig the place. Acharya asked him to demonstrate how to do it. Then the King started digging continuously until dawn without his knowledge. This indicates when chethana like Shesha Devaru, Rudra Devaru and other Devathes are controlled by Vayu Devaru; there was no surprise that Ishwara Deva was made to act like that by the avatara of Vayu Devaru., Shri Acharya. Acharya with his disciples reached near the Ganga river where boats were not available to cross the river. Without anybody’s support, Acharya made his disciples also to cross the Ganga river with him effortlessly. This shows that Vayu Devaru will always protect his devotees and relieve them from sufferings to reach their goal. When they were crossing the river Thurushka soldiers shouted in Turushka language to kill them and were about to drop to the river. Then Acharya in Turushka language replied with high voice that “they are in large numbers and whereas we are a group of small people and how can we harm you, and we are proceeding to see your King only” and stopped them from coming near them. This indicates that Acharya has shown us that when we are in danger we must adopt to the situation to save ourselves. Turushka Raja from the top roof of his Palace saw the bright handsome and well-built Acharya. The King asked Acharya how did they cross the river when his army is surrounded the whole place and when there are no boats available. Then Acharya replied him that they were able to do this hard task with the help of Lord Narayana who is controlling the Surya Mandala. Turushka Raja asked Acharya what is that you are having on your forehead. Acharya replied him that if you have gade(mace) in your hand we have it in our forehead. This indicates the power of angaara and akshathe. The King was very much pleased of the answers given by Acharya and donated his half kingdom to Acharya. Acharya made thieves to fight among them by sammohana samkalpa of Acharya. This incident has occurred in Mahabharatha also when Arjuna made samshapthakas to fight among them by aiming at them with sammohanaasthras. Another time when thieves came in hundred numbers, Acharya made them to run away through one of his disciples by name Upendra Theertha. This shows another mahatme of Acharya. Another time when thieves came to attack Acharya and his disciples, Acharya converted every one as shiles(statues) that made thieves to think that it is a group of shiles(statues), made obeisance, and went away. When Acharya was in Uttara Badari, Narayana presented him LakshmiNarayana prathime that is known as “Vyasamushti”. Vysaraja Devaru instructed Acharya to compose “Mahabharatha Thathparya Nirnaya”. (Acharya composed “Mahabharatha Thathparya Nirnaya in Udupi). Acharya returned from Uttara Badari to Chikka Badari and as the sun was setting in the evening he crossed the river Ganga using his mystic power ‘jalstambhavidya’ without being visible to his disciples, and without his clothes becoming wet. Like this Acharya showed the swaroopa of Vayu Devaru. Disciples watched Acharya who was answering the questions raised by Pundits from the other bank of the river Ganga. Acharya with the help of a king sent boats to bring his disciples from the other bank. From there Acharya reached Hastinapur and stayed there, as it was Chathurmaasya. The river Ganga by cutting across the earth appeared before Acharya to serve him. Afterwards Acharya left for Kashi. There he called some of his proud disciples to fight with him. Acharya pounced upon 15 disciples at a time and asked them to free themselves from him. They implored Acharya to free them from his clutches. This surprised the disciples, but they could not guess that he is the avatar of Vayu Devaru who has the capacity of controlling Rudra Devaru and Indra Devaru with his eye brows itself. Once with an intention of winning over Acharya a sanyasi by name Indrapuri said that from aporoksha jnana one could attain moksha. Then Acharya told him that after aporoksha jnana with karma only it is possible to get happiness in moksha. Then Indrapuri wanted to know the meaning of jnana. Then Acharya made him speechless by saying that “ if you are a jnani there is no need to know the meaning of jnana”. Acharya with his profound knowledge in Veda proved with pranamas that Vishnu is the creator, preserver and destroyer of the jagath(Universe); destroyer of wicked people and liberator of pious people; liberator of sins of pious people, Jagath is run by HIS Samkalpa and He is gunapurna. Afterwards, Acharya reached Kurukshethra that is known as the direction to swarga for Rajas (Kings). There he recollected his previous avatara of Bhima and showed his Gade used during the war against Kouravas. He also saw a Muni and told his disciples that he will born as Maaricha in the next kalpa. When Acharya was staying in Hastinapur, Rudra Devaru in the form of Brahmin appeared before Acharya and requested him to accept “Bikshe” from him. Then Rudra devaru came in the dream for thrice to one of his devotee and made him to offer Bikshe to Acharya. From this, one can understand that Acharya is Guru to Rudra Devaru also. Acharya reached “Ishpatha kshethra” and offered prayer to Shri Parusharama. The king of that Kshethra to test Acharya gave 1000 “Rajakeli” Bananas to eat. Acharya consumed all the bananas. When Acharya was in Goa, a Brahmin by name Sankara offered 4000 plantains and 30 kodas of milk to Acharya. Acharya after eating the plantains and drinking the milk disappeared from that place when Rajabhatts tried to stop him from going. When people of Goa requested Acharya to revive the trees, with his spectacular music made the trees to blossom with flowers and fruits. Shri Madvacharya was worshiped everywhere as a great Vishnu devotee. Shri Madvacharya through the pravachanas, as the rain makes the vrukshas to blossom with fruits and flowers made the righteous people happy and free from suffering.
